I Belong to Myself First

I Belong to Myself First

I couldn't keep going.

What originally inspired and challenged me stopped having any juice. So I stopped.

I don't aspire to twist words into something entertaining just because it's time to publish another blog. That's not my purpose.

I write because my own experiences stretch my awareness into a wider bandwidth of understanding. Those moments that suddenly click... those "Well, I'll be damned" realizations... those have juice. That's why I write. That's why I give this my precious time.

Most of my life, I didn't understand what it meant to belong.

Looking back, I can see that everything I've shared, even before I knew my purpose, has been my way of answering that question for myself. I've been naively, and yes, sometimes stupidly, open with all of you about that journey.

Super frickin' glad I was.

Even when I'm inconsistent.

Because life isn't consistent.

Life moves in cycles, not straight lines.

Planning matters. Keeping your commitments matters. Running a business with integrity matters.

What matters just as much is honoring change.

Honoring the season you're actually in instead of pretending you're somewhere else.

When June arrived, I thought I'd write about my father's beautiful, harmonious death. Or maybe I'd explore the masculine, the outward-driving force that, when distorted, feeds our culture's addiction to doing, producing, and proving our worth.

Instead...

I wrote nothing.

And that turned out to be the most honest thing I could have written.

For years I thought belonging meant staying the course, meeting expectations, and following through no matter what.

Now I know better.

Belonging begins with listening.

It means recognizing when something no longer carries life. It means trusting the pause as much as the momentum. It means letting your own inner truth matter before the noise, before the schedule, before everyone else's expectations.

I belong to myself first.

That's the whole frickin' thing.
