Self-Discovery amidst Disorientation

Standing for Self-Discovery and Freedom

I am now teaching Yoga again, Yin Yoga. I was guided, serendipitously, to a Yoga studio whose owner has deep integrity. You know, we roll in the deepest of the elements willingly. By we, I mean me! Much to my delight, surprise, and willingness to take risks, I found my sweet spot with Yin-Yoga as I weave it with my hands-on practice and sound healing techniques. As I said, I like to go deep. Adjusting a student's position in their body, mind, and energy when invited to do so is one of my soul-level callings.

As I explore the diverse needs of practitioners in Yin Yoga and refine my approach, I came across something similar to my work and current writings, yet new in its framing of the evolution and involution of the human experience, as presented in a Yin Yoga philosophy by Bernie Clark. I will paraphrase:

We come into this life, Yin - open and porous like Play-Doh. We then begin developing our Yang abilities, including muscle strength and stability, throughout our youth. Between the ages of 20 and 30, we reach an optimal balance of being open-minded and flexible, along with stability and strength. From there, we become more rigid, fixed, and compressed to the earth in our mind, body, and energy …until rigor mortis sets into our dead bodies.

My experience and years of living demonstrate that we can sustain an optimal balance between Yin and Yang by reversing our current entrainment. Going back to the early 20th century and the shift in child-rearing, so-called experts led the idea that "training" children by using positive and negative reinforcements of structured and disciplined learning best shaped human behavior. In reality, this parent-centered discipline approach has disoriented our children's sense of themselves and turned society into puppets looking for string masters in all that we do, from careers and partners to a functional inability to be independent. Combined with centuries of patriarchal dominance, our societies and children have never had a chance to self-discover personal orientation. Existence does not have an objective without personal orientation to the present moments in which we find ourselves.

Please let the young ones be wild; let them self-discover and communicate freely. Trust them from the jump, and they will fly with the lessons they discover while you are there, serving as the safety net and the home they return to over and over again for direct and calm self-reflection.

We, humans, are and have been manipulated for centuries by our unknowing caregivers, group thinking, media, and so on—a fishbowl of mind-melding and body-enslaving toxic rhetoric. The rigidity of humankind is evident in our physical and mental health as a result of this truth. The independent and creative thinkers are now a minority. Most shocking to me is the effects of that molding that causes similarity between all groups from MAGA, communities of color, and even those in so-called "spiritual communities." Each type of grouping is no longer righteous; they are blind followers of "group perspectives." Instead, each focuses on what separates them vs. the "good fight" for the things that harmonize humanity.

Separatism is the prevailing orientation and is contrary to the freedom movements by great profits like Dr. Martin Luther King. In Dr. King's speech, "Imagine," he said, "sit down at the table together." He did not say to separate yourselves by your culture, community beliefs, color of skin, sex, or sexuality. We are unintentionally setting ourselves up to become more like our parents than the better version of ourselves. Protection is the opposite of freedom, and the protective ideology being handed down in families to the next generation argues for our past limitations. Parents are teaching fear and separation instead of helping our young people discover the power within them and sense the truths that populate the space they stand in.

Most of humanity never had the chance to figure it all out for themselves. What happened to who we are on the inside? That NEVER gets old! If asked, we would help one another learn to fish so that each person would be self-sustaining; we would act with integrity, knowing what I do or say to you is really about myself. We would discern our words before speaking. And when we get something wrong, which we will because experimentation is how we learn, we laugh at ourselves and willingly apologize to anyone affected. We would have pride in our trials rather than shame. Humanity never really has had the chance to Be and Self-discover.

Today's distraction is the idea of "individual rights" versus collective equality. In other words, we focus on what separates us versus how we are alike.

~ All HUMANS are created equal. That never gets old.

I will always stand in my power for the equal rights of humans, with the understanding and agreement that, ultimately, I am responsible for my perception, decisions, and their consequences. Again, what I do, say, or write to you is really about and for myself. Most are not aware of our existing delusional state, and many who are awake want to bypass the difficult work of examining how they created their circumstances. Another popular yet misunderstood path seeks to move into ascended or altered states when the path to sustainable internal happiness is actually about mastering the earthly, polarized world first. A Yin approach to processing resistance involves honoring and surrendering to it, then finding personal orientation to balance, boundaries, and stability within you. Healing our lineage and painful past is what humanity is being called upon to master at this time.

As Dr. King said, "Let's make the crooked places straight together!"
